Recently, new energy industry has got lots of support. The researches on new energy and its control technology have made great process. More and more distributed generations have been integrated to the power grid. The integration of distributed generations will bring lots of influences to the protection and operation of distribution system. In order to make full use of renewable energy and ensure the reliable and safe operation of power system, corresponding researches must be done. This paper represents the researches that have been done by the author. The main achievements are as follows:1. The influences of distributed generations to the protection and automatic devices of distribution system have been analyzed. The fault characteristics of inverter-interfaced distributed generation have been studied. The multi-agent based protection scheme is proposed. The design of agent and the communication system have been discussed in detail.2. The maximum allowable capacity and integration location of distributed generation has been analyzed considering three sect current protection and inverse time overcurrent protection. The design principles of allowable capacity and integration location have been proposed. Besides, improvements of protection have been put forward to increase the maximum allowable capacity.3. A peak shaving strategy has been studied for distribution system with battery energy storage system. A load interval based peak shaving strategy has been proposed. The control cycle of peak shaving application has also been investigated. An adjustment strategy has been proposed for the real-time operation. The selection of parameters have been discussed, including the capacity, normal charge and discharge power, charge and discharge ratio of battery energy storage system.4. The optimal operation of MV distribution system with distributed generations has been presented. An evaluation system has been constructed. A Power network reconstruction scheme based on power supply paths of individual substation has been proposed, and the knowledge of power grid can be used to accelerate the optimization algorithm. The optimization of operation has been achieved through genetic algorithm, which is based on decimal code embedded with power supply paths of substations. A smart platform has been developed based on the model of a certain MV network, which is able to provide reference for the management of operation mode.
