Evaluation Of Efficacy For Traditional Open Carpal Tunnel Release In Treatment Of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Objective:To evaluate the clinical efficacy in the carpal tunnel syndrome patients underwent traditional open carpal tunnel release pre and postoperatively.Methods:46patients (15male,31female; around age27～67years old, mean46.1) total of wrist,s69(right wrist38cases, and the left wrist31cases), All patients diagnosed with CTS underwent open carpal tunnel release operation. Postoperative follow-up time6～36months mean17. Through pre and postoperative detected two-point discrimination, Grip and pinch strength test; asses the Levine testing, DASH scale and SF-36scale; observation complication after operation (wound scar, pillar pain); Also the returning time to work or daily activities and efficacy of patient satisfaction. All the results was measured and evaluated. Results of paired t test using SPSS statistical software.Result:The symptoms for all the patients after operation were significantly improved, specially disappears the nocturnal numbness and hand function activities improved; The time to return to work or daily activities was (2.9months); Postoperative grip strength averaged was28.8±6.5(preoperative was23.2±6.8), Pinch strength was6.8±2.2(preoperative was4.2±1.9) and two-point discrimination was2.8±0.88(preoperative was4.7±2.2); The average score pre and postoperative on the Levine scale, DASH scale and SF-36scale were improved; Complications (scar pain (33.33%) and pillar area pain (26.08%)). Conclusion:Traditional open carpal tunnel release (TOCTR) significantly improve symptoms and functions of the affected hand, Promote patients’ psychological and social activities, enhance the life quality of patients.
