ObjectiveDiabetes are the type of disease that can not be fully cured by modern medical treamernts. Patient cares and related complications require tremendous medical resources which is a huge medical burden to the society and economy. In recent years, modern medical science proposes an integrated treatment method, i.e., the integration of modern Western medicine and tradition Chinese medicine. This research study is conducted under the base of the Mentor Prof. Wannian Peng’s clinical research. The review of relevant literature explored the Chinese and Western meanings of diabetes. Under the current diabetes treatment behavior, this study primarily adopted the Zhenwu Decoction together with Antrodia Cinnamomea commonly used as Chinese herb medicine in Taiwan for clinical research. This study adopted the theory of "shaoyin disease" in the "differentiation of six channels" as the validation criteria of clinical research on diabetes. A total of30type Ⅱ diabete patients were invited to participate in this study. The Zhenwu Decoction of classical prescription and the Antrodia Cinnamomea particularly existing in Taiwan as a kind of Chinese herb mendicine were used in a clinical treament of type Ⅱ diabetes. MethodsThe30type Ⅱ diabete patients confirmed by4hospitals in Tao Yuan City, Taiwan, were randomly divided into3groups. Each group included10patients. A between-subject One-way ANOVA was conducted to help analyze the patient’s initial blood suger value. Similar analyses were conducted after one week and after two weeks to investigate if there existed any statistically significant difference pertinent to the patient’s blood suger value duringand after the treaments. In addition, in order to investigate the separate treatment effect of Zhenwu Decoction group, Antrodia Cinnamomea group and Zhenwu Decoction+Antrodia Cinnamomea group, the within-subject One-way ANOVA was conducted separatedly among these groups to help investigate if there existed any statistically significant progress regarding the patient’s blood sugar value after the first week and after the second week treatments. ResultsThe results generated from the clinical study revealed that Zhenwu Decoction, Antrodia Cinnamomea, and the combination use of the above two medicines can actually lower the patient’s blood sugar value. That is, after two weeks, the patient’s blood sugar value was significantly lower than their initial value. In addition, the blood sugar value decrease rate in the Antrodia Cinnamomea group was the slowest among these three groups. That is, the effect of Antrodia Cinnamomea group was significantly slower than the Zhenwu Decoction group and Zhenwu Decoction+Antrodia Cinnamomea group. There existed no treatment difference between Zhenwu Decoction group and Zhenwu Decoction+Antrodia Cinnamomea group. ConclusionThe meanings of this research study indicate that:(1) It confirms that the unique Antrodia Cinnamomea of Taiwan herb medician does have treatment effects on type Ⅱ diabete patients. That is, as a solitary herb medician, the Antrodia Cinnamomea possesses its superiority and advantage in type Ⅱ diabete treatments. More studies can be conducted to explore its potentials.(2) The Zhenwu Decoction has significant effects on lowering blood sugar value. Its superiority is based on the scientific nature of compound Chinese herb medicians. This also emphasizes the huge advantages of Zhongjing Zhang’s classical prescription. The results are also consistent with the Mentor Prof. Wannian Peng’s clinical research findings pertinent to Zhenwu Decoction and scientific research.
