Objectives: The incidence of emotional diseases which impact on people’s quality oflife and work status are increasing day by day. Therefore, this study leads to research onthe brain location of Liver-qi Depression of PMS.To explore the brain location of “liverregulating the normal flow of Qi and emotions”.Methods:The BOLD-functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) was used in thisresearch.Case group of PMS patients complyed with the American Society of Obstetricsand Gynecology (ACOG) international diagnostic criteria.Also they complyed withdiagnostic criteria of Liver-qi Depression.Control group subjects were healthy whomatched age, sex and education with case group.All subjects viewed pictures whichcould induce depression in the process of functional magnetic resonance scanning.SPM8software and t test were used to analyse the fMRI data.Results:13subjects were recruited in case group.15subjects were recruited in controlgroup.All subjects who were no differences in age, sex and education were students ofShandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Casegroup brain areas activation decreased compared with control group in task:Frontal_Sup_Orb_L (aal), Frontal_Mid_R (aal), Brodmann area10, Brodmann area11,Rectus_L (aal), Rectus_R (aal), Brodmann area47, Brodmann area46, Brodmann area32,Brodmann area25, Insula_R (aal), Amygdala, Hippocampus, Cingulum_Ant_L (aal),Cingulum_Ant_R (aal), Caudate_L (aal), Caudate Head, Putamen, Caudate_R (aal),Putamen_L (aal),Putamen_R (aal),Pallidum_L (aal).Case group compared with controlgroup in task, Occipital Lobe,Temporal Lobe, Cerebellum were activated enhanced,Sub-lobar,Sub-Gyral,Extra-Nuclear, Frontal Lobe,Limbic Lobe were activated declined.Conclusions:1.The main regulatory brain areas of Liver-qi Depression ofPremenstrual syndrome:Frontal Lobe, Temporal Lobe, bilateral Precuneus,Occipital,posterior Cingulate Cortex, bilateral Insula.2.Pathogenesis of central mechanisms about Liver-qi Depression of Premenstrualsyndrome: Occipital Lobe, Temporal Lobe, Cerebellum activated enhanced;Sub-lobar,Sub-Gyral, Extra-Nuclear,Frontal Lobe(Orbitofrontal cortex, Frontal medial surfacespecially),Limbic Lobe,Cingulate Gyrus,Basal Nuclei activated declined.3. We have explared liver regulating emotons of brain areas: Frontal Lobe,Parietal Lobe, Occipital Lobe, bilateral Insula, Cingulate Cortex.
