Compared with other types of poems, fortress poetry displays its unique characteristics in terms of geographic factors, war themes as well as emotional tones. Geographic factors differentiate fortress poetry from landscape poetry in Central Plains; its war theme of Hu and Han emphasizes the original political meaning of fortress and frontier, which is different from that of chaotic battle among warlords in Central Plains; its plaintive and bold tone contrasts that of gentle and solemn style across Chinese poetry history.In the pre-Qin period, the connotation of fortress poetry is less explicit as that in Han and Tang Dynasties; its themes, however, are relevant to the content of fortress poetry regarding scene arrangement as well as longing for love, etc., all of which shed some light on the development of fortress poetry.In Han Dynasty, battles between Han and Hu take place rather frequently. Very few poems are involved in these events, but detailed reports were found in history works including Shiji and Hanshu. In terms of content, these records in history documentation provide abundant materials for the development of fortress poems and become core subjects of fortress poetry. In artistic features, the tradition of Han yuefu becomes one of the primary methods of fortress poetry writing. Han yuefu, as a comprehensive art form, exerts influence on fortress poetry in many aspects. As a type of music, the sonorous and bold tone that Guichui songs advocate lays a basic foundation of yuefu; as for lyrics, Han yuefu shows a strong anti-war tendency and becomes the pioneering works of similar themes. Typical works include:"Fighting in the South of the Town" and "Join the Army at the Age of15". As a recreational form, the exaggerating narrative modes and conversational skills of Yuefu become a model almost impossible to reach for the next generations.Fortress poetry displays duel features at the end of Han Dynasty and early of Wei Dynasty. For one thing, fortress poetry still carries its musical characteristic; for another, it gradually shows its tendency as a form of poetry. The greatest impact of poetry in this period on Yuefu poetry is that it establishes a new writing approach—that is to write current affairs in traditional poetry forms. Meanwhile, the range of Yuefu poetry is enlarged and the theme of swordsman becomes part of fortress poetry.This article explores different features of Yuefu poetry in different periods by analyzing the correlation between Yuefu poetry system and fortress poetry development.The poetry don’t concern too much boredom of war, only several poems in Hanyuefu although the battles happened frequently in Hu-han period, but it is recorded in details in Schi ji and Han Shu. The records of Hu-han Battle in some historic works provide abundant art materials for Fortress poetry Poetry and become the important source for some tales in the later age’s poetry. The creating traditions are the main ways to write Fortress poetry Poetry in art.Hanyuefu, the comprehensive art, has a multiple influence on Fortress poetry Poetry. As a kind of music art, the bold music style of wind instruments music establishes the basic emotional tone of the later age’s Fortress poetry Poetry; the content of Yuefu Poetry reveals a strong anti-war mood, for example, Zhan Chengnan, Shiwu Congjun Zheng, which become harbinger of the same kinds of Fortress poetry Poetry; as a kind of entertainment art, the slightly exaggerated descriptive methods and dialogue skills become the incomparable art model in Fortress poetry Poetry; the composing methods, feeling from sadness and happiness, have an direct impact on Jian’an poems, and establish the realism tradition in composing in the end. In short, Hanyuefu has a profound influence on Fortress poetry Poetry no matter what the themes, poetical language and expressing techniques are. Yuefu Poetry also become the main literacy form of Fortress poetry Poetry. Under this circumstance, poets could write special Fortress poetry Poems without Fortress poetry experience.Jian’an period is the primary stage for the development of Wenren Poetry. During this period, the relationship between Yuefu and music is lightened compared with Han Dynasty, but becomes close opposite to Jin-song period. Fortress poetry Yuefu reveals double natures, one is music nature, the other is poetry. And it establishes the composing methods based on the narrating overdue current affairs. At the meanwhile, it broadens the theme of Fortress poetry Poetry, such as Buchu Xianmen Xing written by Caocao, Yange Xing written by Caopi, Baima Pian written by Caozhi and Congju Xing written by Wangcan. Caowei period is the first stage for the development of Fortress poetry Poetry. Jian’an poets combine traveling and Fortress poetry as the content firstly; the composing methods from Yuefu provide commendable reference.Jin-song period is the classic period for the development of Yuefu Poetry. Qing Shang San Diao becomes the formal tone in this period, but the relationship becomes apart between Yuefu and music. Under the background of Shi Fu Yu Li, poets focus on Xiang and Geci, imitating Caozhi’s and Luji’s works. The content of Jin-song Yuefu is dull, but the composing skills highlight the developing direction of poetry, such as Luji’s and Yan Tingzhi’s works. There are no further enhancement in the theme of their poetry imitated by the poetry in Jian’an period, but endows humanism colours for Yuefu Poetry, such as beautiful words, antithesis and rhyme. In this period, Baozhao’s and Wujun’s Fortress poetry Yuefu Poetry are unprecedented. Apart from their family background, their works is related to the composing environment. Baozhao’s Fortress poetry Yuefu, especially his Qiyan Yuefu, have a big impact on the poetry in later age.Qi Liang Chen Sui periods are the important stage for Jinti Poetry. Although Qing Shang San Diao is treated as the formal tune out of the literary world, Wu Sheng Xi Qu becomes popular among the court and the commonalty. In this cultural environment, the less the scholars imitate the old music, the more they reference popular music. Yongming Xinti occurs conforming to the times which marks the beginning of composing tradition of new Yuefu poetry. The poets make the length of the Fortress poetry Poetry short and harmonious, and tend to the new Yuefu Poetry afterwards. In Liang-chen period, Futi Fa was applied to compose the theme of Han Heng Chui Qu and accelerate the prosperity of Liang Chen Fortress poetry Yuefu. Futi Fa initiated by scholars in Nan Dynasty has a great influence on composing Fortress poetry Poetry in Tang Dynasty.In the literature environment pursuing changing, the ballad spread from north to south stimulates the composing Fortress poetry Poetry with battles and culture interchange between north and south. The Yuefu ballad in North Dynasty plays an important role in the development of Fortress poetry Yuefu Poetry and presents the characteristics of advocating Wushu. With the development through North and Sui Dynasties, the Fortress poetry Yuefu Poetry carries on the techniques from Yi and Liang periods, especially Yuxin and Wangbao come to the north, and presents the practicality in the content as Yangsu, Xue Daoheng and Lu Sidao examples.As the Fortress poetry Yuefu Poetry is limited by the social reality and personal experience, the theme tends to different types, however, it has a direct impact on the development of Fortress poetry Yuefu in Tang Dynasty:initiating the Futi Fa composing mode; forming Yi Han Yu Jin expressing mode; establishing the typical Fortress poetry image; enriching the content of Fortress poetry Yuefu Poetry. Therefore, the art of Fortress poetry Yuefu Poetry in Tang Dynasty originates from the Fortress poetry Yuefu Poetry in South Dynasty.
