The art form of Chinese grotto statues is started from3th century inXinjiang Province, and ended in FeiLaiFeng, builded in Hangzhou on Yuan Dynasty,after thousands of years’ evaluations. It may not be the crowning achievementduring the history of statue-building, but it is known as the last shine instatues-building history by its tremendous amount and its elegant and uniquepatterns. Why Chinese grotto statues chose to end in FeiLaiFeng? Why it wasshown in a such large dense and represented both Chinese and Buddhist features?Where were all these features come from? The essay is trying to prove that thestatues of FeiLaiFeng building in Yuan Dynasty was built under the directionof YangLianzhen and his son YangAnpu, by studying the statues’ images,signatures, and also by investigating the sites, the mutual supports betweenancient books and records, and analyzing the regions and comparing theimages.The essay also gives a conclusion that Chinese features of FeiLaifengstatues building in Yuan Dynasty are inherited the local themes and because ofsome Chinese statues patterns were from the Western Xia regime, like theBuddhist’s, therefore they also kept the western and central Tibetan statuesfeatures. All these conclusions are coming from comparing the themes andpatterns of Western Xia, two capital of Yuan Dynasty and the original localthemes of Hangzhou. The essay also infer that there should be powder paintingsand the foreign craftsmen whom were familiar with both Chinese and Buddhiststatues features at the beginning of the statues-building of Yuan Dynasty, etc.
