Research on The Book of Historical Documents in Zhou, Qin and Two HanDynasties mainly focuses on the textual evolution of The Book of Historical Documents(Shang Shu) and relative annotations of that period. This thesis contains threeparts:The chapter1is literature review.1.1summarizes and comments theaccomplishments and defects of Shang Shu research from Qing Dynasty to the Republicof China (1911-1949), and thus extracts our own research methods applied throughoutthis thesis.1.2sums up basic literatures from11aspects of Shang Shu, and discussesrelative research improvements as well as problems in urgent need of solving. Theseaspects are as following:(1) the Ouyang and two Xiahou’s versions of“New Text” Shang Shu in Han Dynasty.(2)“Old Text” Shang Shu in Han Dynasty.(3)The “Preface” of the two versions in Han Dynasty.(4) Shang Shu quoted in ShuoWen Jie Zi.5The version of Ma Rong, Zheng Xuan WangSu.(6) Stone Classics of the Xiping Reign.(7) Stone Classics of the ZhengshiReign.(8) the Dunhuang handwritten copy: Shu Guwen Zhuan.(9)JingdianShiwen before the Kaibao Reign of Northern Song.10Shu Shuand Stone Classics of the Kaicheng Reign.(11)Han Jian and Shu Guwen XunThe chapter2is respective study on each chapter of Shang Shu. In this part,different transcriptions of the28chapters from pre-Qin are comprehensivelysummarized, and the lost texts extant in quotations of the works in pre-Qin and twoHans are ascribed to the100chapters of Shang Shu. We have also renewed explanationson the history, texts and characters of the28chapters based on the combination ofpassed down and excavated documents (the latter includes bronze inscriptions, bambooand silk manuscripts, stone inscriptions and handwritten copies). Centering on theShang Shu text itself, we try to solve the problems about the11aspects stated above.The chapter3is focused on problems of7aspects about the definitive edition andpassed-down process of Shang Shu. The aspects are as following:3.1Inter-attestationof bronze inscriptions, manuscripts and the passed-down Shang Shu.3.2The school which the Shang Shu contained in Shi Ji should belong to, and a further discussionabout the teaching and learning of Shang Shu in Western Han.3.3Various Shang Shuversions presented in the quotations by Shuo Wen Jie Zi of Eastern Han, and a furtherdiscussion of the basic situation about both the New Text and the the Old Text ShangShu in that period.3.4Shang Shu extant in stone inscriptions of Han, and a discussionabout the relationship between the popular version and the official version in EasternHan.3.5Recovering some content in the stone classics of the Xiping Reign, whichcontains the definitive edition of the New Text Shang Shu in Eastern Han.3.6ShangShu contained in Dunhuang handwritten copies, which was transcribed from old text toclerical script, a discussion about its old text origin, its different characteristics fromstone classics of the Zhengshi Reign, and the revision of Jingdian Shiwen and Old TextShang Shu in Northern Song.3.7Research methods about Shang Shu in Qing Dynasty.
