A Research on Gesture in the Chinese Classical Dance is the first research on "gesture" in the research area of Chinese classical dance at home and abroad. As the name implies, gesture is a kind of hand dance including the movements of fingers, palm and wrist. The researcher is trying to find the common regulations of Chinese classical dance through the basic gestures in the three styles of Chinese classical dance, for a deep cultural study on Chinese classical dance as well as its aesthetic value. At the same time studying on Chinese classical dance gestures, the researcher is also looking for a research method for gesture study for the first time. So the study will offer more experiences for a further systematic study.The core content of this dissertation is to study and analyze the existing resources of Chinese classical dance gestures. The paper consists of five parts, namely Introduction, three Chapters and Conclusion. In the Introduction part, the concept of "gesture" and its theoretical foundation are introduced. Chapter One includes a brief introduction to three styles of Chinese classical dance of Shen Yun, Han Tang and Dun Huang and the collection and analysis of all the existing gestures in class and in repertoires, so that we can go the a further study on the way of using those gestures. In Chapter Two, the life and cultural background of gestures are introduced and among which, the Chinese sign language, the Mudra in the Chinese Buddhism and the gestures and movements in the Chinese Opera are sorted out in a detailed way. Gestures and movements which conform to the Chinese Classical Dance in these three different areas are found out and the hand gestures from the above three areas which have been shown in the Chinese Classical Dance are analyzed. In Chapter Three, the aesthetic pattern and culture significance of the Chinese classical dance gestures is introduced, through which we can see both the history and future development from the perspective of gesture. Conclusion part is a summary of the paper. A Research on Gesture in the Chinese Classical Dance has opened up a new research area. The research approach on the basis of gesture is adopted to conduct research and analysis of a certain dance type for the first time in this paper. In the research process, it is found out that there is a huge space for gesture research. More opportunities and resources are required to be invested in this brand new platform to improve and perfect the research approaches of gesture and other types of hand dance.
