Pass research showed that on the one way, the process of these two dimensions of emotion had different brian mechanism:the main area for processing valence is limbic-system while the main area for processing motivation is prefrontal cortex. On the other way, the special valence state can induce special motivation. For example, positive emotion can induce approach motivation and negaitve emotion can induce avoid motivation. These outcomes means valence and motivation are separated and interactional. This paper inculded three research, uesd the pattern of facial recognization and ERP technology to explor the relationship bewteen the motivation kind of a face and the basic emotion kind of a face in the face processing, the effect of approach good and avoid bad and the relative level of automation between valence and motivation dimension.Research 1 used the pattern of facial recognization and correlation analysis. The outcome showed that the pleasure face let paricipant feel this actor want to approach enviorment, while the fear and disgust face let paricipant feel this actor want to avoid enviorment. The research 2 inculded tow ERP and one expriments. Participants were asked to recognize the valence and motivation dimension of face and their ERPs were record during this process. The outcome showed that the participants themselves motivation has been activated in the later time of process when recognized the valence dimension of face. In addion, the left prefrontal cortex not only involed in process approach motivation but also involed in process avoid motivation and the effect of approach good and avoid bad would not present whan participant not gave a overt process to the valence dimension of face. The third research included 2 ERP and 2 behavior expriments. Expriment 1 and 2 use face-word stroop pattern to let participant recognize information from one face’s dimension (valence or motivation) and ignore disturbed words information from the other dimension (motivation or valence) on the face. The ERPs were recorded during the same time. The outcome showed that the information from valence words can damage the process to the motivation dimension of face. In detial, in the inconsistcy condition, the the speed and accuracy of the process were slowed donw and an incresed SP has been showed in the later time of process. However, the disturbed informantion from motivation words can only slow donw the speed of process to the valence dimension of face. Thus, the dimension of valence has a higer automation level than the dimension of motivation in a face. In addition, expriment 3 and 4 let participant recognize the sex dimension of face, and asked than to ignore words information from valence or motivation dimension. The outcome showed that the interference effect bewteen valence and motivation dimension showed in expriment 1 and 2 can not be expanded to other demension (sex). In all, three research found that when recognize a face, a pleasure face let people feel this man want to approach enviorment and a fear or disguest face let people feel this man wants to avoid enviorment. People themslves motivation will be activated if the valence dimension has been overt processed by them. In contrast when people process the motivation dimension of face, though the valence dimension of face will still be processed dued to its relative higher level of automation, this implict process to the valence do not activate people themslves approach or avoid motivation. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Facial expression recognition, Valenee, Motivation direction, ERPs, Approach motivation, Avoid motivation, Approach good avoid bad effect, Relative level of automation | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
