Research On The Todo Script And Its Development Of History

Todo script is one of the most important characters of Mongolian, is a non separable part of Mongolian and the whole human culture. The Todo written texts and works have been collected by many countries of the world. In recent years, study of the Todo script caused scholar’s more and more attention and concern all over the world, and Todo script research has become an important part of Mongolian studies.There are so many document literatures in Todo script, including the historical documents, literature works, religious texts, medical works, astronomy books, linguistic works, mathematical works, folklore works, letters, legal documents, archives, periodicals, inscriptions and so on. Although there are so many document literatures in Todo scripts collected by archives,, libraries, museums and personal collections, but a lot of document literatures in Todo scripts has not yet entered the scope of the academia, and has not yet used and studied by scholars. Todo scripts is the key to open the Todo cultural treasures. It is very important to study the Todo scripts on the basis of previous research results.In this article, systematically studied the letters and writing rules of Todo scripts from the historical point of view and on the basis of the existing data and results of modern scholar’s research. As a result, we think the history of Todo scripts have divided into three stages:classical todo, colloquial Todo and standardized Todo. In this article we also summarized the characteristics and differences of letters and orthography and grammar of each historical stages of todo scripts, analyzed and studied its reasons in detail.This paper consists of introduction, the first chapter, the second chapter and the summary. In the introduction part, expounds the significance of the research topic, research methods, research status and aspects of controversial issues concerning to Todo scripts on personal analysis and review. In the first chapter, we studied the letters, orthography and punctuation of Todo scripts using in Xinjiang area now. In the second chapter, from the historical point of view, we think it have been divided into three types:the classical todo, colloquial Todo and standardized Todo. In this chapter, made a detailed comparison analysis to identify the underlying causes of the similarities and differences of the alphabet and orthography and grammar of the three types of Todo scripts from the historical and cultural aspects. The conclusion part summarized the research results.
