Sino-Russian relation has become increasingly important within the21st century, and its institutionalization is also growing more urgent. Sino-Russian relation has developed from constructive partnership to strategic cooperative partnership since the1990s, each step of progress is accompanied with institutionalization of specific fields. Institutionalization of China and Russia relations has been promoted by a trend of international institutionalization, and another driving force is historical reflection on the Sino-Soviet alliance. As China and Russia rely on each other politically and economically, there is a need for institutionalized cooperation. Owning to their historical and cultural factors, China and Russia lack necessary understanding and awareness of institutionalization, the demand for the institutionalization in a new era stimulate two countries to construct new institutionalization. Through joint efforts, China and Russia has established a full range of institutional mechanisms for cooperation in the political, economic, security, culture and other fields. These mechanisms are promoting institutional development of the Sino-Russian relations, and present increasingly its effect of system accumulation. With the vigorous high-level promotion, the driving structure of two countries’ institutionalization is going from external into internal. The institutionalization of the Sino-Russian relations last nearly20years, and it has achieved remarkable results. Mutual trust between Sino-Russian is growing, the information and communication channels are becoming more smoothly, and it promotes a healthy and stable development of bilateral relations. But there are also problems, such as structural framework of institutionalization is still loose, the two sides treat institutionalization with different attention, the economic and social infrastructure of institutionalization is relatively weak and the effect of different areas of the institutionalization is out of balance. At present, the institutionalization of Sino-Russian relations has entered into a new stage of development. However, the further institutionalization is facing tough challenges, such as multidimensional and dynamic nature of national interests, the continuing impact of the U.S, the lagging effect of economic and trade field, the competition caused by the double rise of China and Russia, the misperception of "China threat ", etc. Based on these factors, this study presents a bold prediction for possible future prospects of the institutionalization of Sino-Russian relations, and provides some possible policy recommendations. From a long-term perspective, if two countries want to continue to develop relations in a stable, predictable environment, both sides should have strategic thinking of the future prospects, and jointly promote the two countries on the right track of development.
