This thesis is based on the dialectical materialism and historical materialism. The researching object of the thesis is historical phenomenon of the enlargement of class struggle in mainland China from1956to1976. The thesis was supported by multiple knowledge structures, such as political science, sociology, economic, history and etc. It uses the methods of literature research, theoretical deduction, generalizing, oral history and etc. The thesis seeks the roots of the enlargement of class struggle from aspects of the traditional socialist system, the ruling party’s situation, social situation, historical tradition and modern revolutionary tradition of China, etc.The thesis consists of introduction, main body and conclusion parts.The introduction part mainly explains the origin, the significance, the relevant concepts and the research scope of the selected subject; states the outline of the present research status both at home and abroad, and introduces the key messages of the research, the basic thinking, the research methods and the research innovations of the thesis.The main body of the thesis includes four chapters.The first chapter is about the happening, developing, manifestation, characteristics and consequences of the enlargement of class struggle from1956to1976. First, it states the historical process of the enlargement of class struggle’s occurrence and development from1956to1976. Second, it points out the concrete manifestation of the enlargement of class struggle. Third, it shares the characteristics of the enlargement of class struggle during the period by comparisons. And last, it addresses the serious consequences of the enlargement of class struggle.The second chapter is about the system roots of the enlargement of class struggle. This chapter mainly reveals the system roots from two aspects, the traditional socialism’s endogenous demand for class struggle and the traditional socialism’s amplification effect to class struggle.The third chapter is about the internal cause of the CPC in the enlargement of class struggle. This chapter reveals the internal party’s basis of the CPC in the enlargement of class struggle from three angles as below:the ideology’s formation of class struggle as the core, CPC’s hardship and incompleteness in transformation from a revolutionary party to a ruling party, the condition of the Party members and the inner contradiction’s alienation of the CPC.The fourth chapter is about the social source, historical and cultural factors. This chapter analyzes how various social contradictions expressed by the "face" of class contradiction and class struggle during1956—1976by the start from the political stratification after the founding of the People’s Republic of China, and how the social ecology under the planned economic system provides a hotbed for this "transformation" or "enlargement". The chapter also explores the historical and cultural factors of the enlargement of class struggle.The conclusion is entitled as "the history without complete farewell", which aims to point out the thinking of "Taking class struggle as the guiding principle" has remaining and impacting on the pace of China’s reform and opening-up since the Open Door over30years and what we should learn from the history of the enlargement of class struggle.
