A Study Of The Concept Of Green Development In Contemporary China

There was a rapid development of economic and social construction in China since the Reform and Opening-up, and people’s material and cultural living standard was booming. However, dominated by the leading development philosophy of pursuing economic growth and worshiping GDP, Chinese people have been exploiting and utilizing nature without constraints. The ecological order is destroyed, the relationship between human and nature is alienated, and therefore the economic society is immersed in a vicious circle of development—contamination—redevelopment—recontamination. Based on the sustainable development, human beings have to take a revolutionary reflection on the development philosophy and pattern of traditional industrial civilization. People should reexamine and deal with the relationship between human and nature correctly, from blind obeying and rebuilding nature to conscious commanding and initiative utilizing nature. People should manage to acquire more social welfare with sustainable consumption of nature, to realize the symbiosis, co-prosperity and co-evolution between human and nature, and achieve the harmonious unification of the three systems:human, society and nature. The Concept of Green Development, which is a new concept of development, means constructing an orderly ecological operation mechanism and a good ecological environment, as much as developing human society. It combines Marx’s ecological thought, the theory of social development and Chinese practice in development together, answers the question of "How to realize scientific development" with the constraints of resources and environment. This dissertation deems that green development is a sublation and transcendence of the previous traditional idea of development, and the contemporary ecological problem in China could be solved fundamentally by establishing the concept of Green Development and achieving green development. The dissertation consists of five chapters. Chapter One expounds the historical background of the Concept of Green Development. This chapter analyzes the practice reason, ideological motivation and social motivation of the Concept of Green Development, from the aspect of practice difficulty, the awakening of ecological protection consciousness and the level of the development of social productive forces. Chapter Two mainly elaborates the theoretical source and guiding ideology of the concept of Green Development. Marxism is the guiding ideology of the concept of Green Development, the plain ecological idea in ancient China and the criticism of modern concept of development in the West are the main theoretical sources of the concept of Green Development. Marx’s ecological thought offers important guidance to the formation and development of the concept of Green Development. Chapter Three construes the principal features of the concept of Green Development, that is, its development philosophy is the unification of human-centric and ecology-centric idea; its development mode is a green development, a cycle development and a low carbon development; its primary objective is to reduce consumption and partake achievement; its purpose is to leave development space for both human and nature, promote constructive phase for both, and realize the comprehensive development of human ultimately. Chapter Four expatiates the contemporary practice exploration of green development in China and the contemporary value of the concept of Green Development. In the early years of the new nation, the practice exploration of China’s socialist construction contained the implication of green development; after the Reform and Opening-up, for one thing the development strategy of taking economic construction as the center intensified the contradiction between the economic and social development and environment, for another it promoted the formation of the concept of green development; after the16th CPC national congress, the practice exploration of green development is in full swing in China. The contemporary value of green development concept is embodied in the following aspects:it is the new achievement of practicing Marx’s ecological ideology in the present age; it promotes the oriental conversion of world civilization dimension; it exhibits the strong vitality of socialist system. Chapter Five mainly states the practical route of the concept of Green Development, which is analyzed from the aspect of establishing green values, forming green mode of production and life, constructing green system and culture and so on.
