As the quantity of Chinese urban automobile has increased continuously with the rapid development of urbanization and motorization, the urban road traffic jam, the increase of transportation energy consumption and the urban environment pollution has become continuously serious. And that has become a common phenomenon from metropolis to middle-sized and small cities, and has become the hot question in the society. To alleviate the urban road traffic congestion, reduce transportation energy consumption and environment pollution, Chinese government had brought ―green travel‖ into the 12 th Five-Year Plan in 2012, and the strategy of circular economic development and the action plan for the control of air pollution in 2013, and the action plan for energy development strategy in 2014. With high population density and high social economic development level, the eastern region has the highest motorization degree and car ownership in China, and has the most serious traffic congestion and environment pollution problems. As the resident is the subject of green travel, it is necessary to discuss the driving mechanism of urban residents‘ green travel behavior in the eastern China. Thus to propose some related policy suggestions to promote urban residents to do green travel.According to the technical route which contains theory foreshadowing, qualitative research, quantitative test, conclusion analysis and policy suggestion, this paper studies urban residents‘ green travel behavior and its driving mechanism in the eastern China, in order to clarify the influencing factors system of green travel behavior, and the functional relations between factor variables and behavior variables, and the interaction mechanism among each variable. Firstly, based on the literature review, the concept and category of urban residents‘ green travel behavior are defined. Secondly, using ground theory and indepth interview, this paper finds key influence factors and builds the theoretical model of the driving mechanism of urban residents‘ green travel behavior, and does a deep exposition of the theoretical model from an ―Attitude-Behavior Gap‖ perspective. Then, on this basis, the questionnaire of Chinese urban residents‘ green travel behavior is developed. And according to the large sample survey data of cities in the eastern China, this paper does the statistical analysis of the actuality, characteristic difference and spatial difference of urban residents‘ daily travel and green travel by using multivariate statistical analysis, and does the in-depth analysis of the functional mechanism of influence factors of urban residents‘ green travel behavior by using correlation analysis, regression analysis and structural equation model. Finally, domestic and overseas guiding policies of urban residents‘ green travel behavior are carded and analyzed, and regulation policy suggestions to promote urban residents‘ green travel are proposed concerning the results of qualitative and quantative anslysis.
