The epic of Homer includes the ancient Greek works of Iliad and Odyssey. Because the two epics described many touching heroes, they were known as the "heroic epic", and that time was called the "age of heroes". This paper tries to solve the following problem:how did the heroes in Homer’s epics become heroes? Or, this article attempts to research how the heroes in Homer’s epic fulfilled the meaning of life through educational enlightenment from Angle of pedagogy. To this end, this paper adopts the method of micro hidden hermeneutics of the historical research method, and chooses the two most representative Homeric heroes, Achilles and Odysseus, in the view of inside and outside, to study the paideia of life of Homeric heroes. Here, the "outside" refers to the literature table of the epics, and the "inside" refers to the educational meaning of the epics. As to the ancient Greek selection of great indoctrination works, the epics indexed all the truth of possibilities and necessaries of education of human being. In modern education, there is a key rule, that is:factors affecting people’s physical and mental development include heredity, environment, education and individual subjective ability. Paideia, then, is the process that people go to the "whole" and the "perfect" through their own practice and self-improvement, and through the influence of environment, education and other factors. The process of paideia of life of Homeric heroes, is the process that Homeric heroes went to the stature of "whole" and the "perfect" through their own practice and improvement, and were affected by the culture of ancient Greek mythology, war and the noble virtues, and by connecting with gods and by the helping of education, and through the inner conflict of contradictions and physical suffering of those individuals. The way of Homeric heroes choosing to fulfill the meaning of their life is self-practice and self-improvement freely under the ruling of gods. Thus the epics embodies the meaningful noble life (the whole and the harmonious). The course of paideia of life of Homeric heroes, is also the journey of those heroes’ life. The paideia of life of Homeric heroes has significant enlightenment to the later generations.
