Though human ability of movement coordination was a significant athletic ability, there had been many gaps and ambiguities left in the previous research. This research strived to interpret human ability of the coordination in theory systematically and make an empirical study on the structure and affecting factors of the movement coordination ability by large sample testing. The characteristics of the coordination ability of athletes of different athletic items were explored and some suggestions on improving the related training work were given henceforth. The main research achievements of the research are listed as follows:(1) Interpretation of the core concepts; Athletic coordination is defined as a synergy state of coordination among different senses and sport organs in the athletic process in certain space time, which is generated by the cooperative effect of different major neural structures involved in movements. Movement coordination ability is defined as a comprehensive neurological functional ability to coordinate different major neural structures involved in movements, which results in the coordination between different senses and organs. Characteristics of movement coordination refer to the external characteristics of the movement coordination state. Movement coordination process is a kind of organizing process in which the major neural structures coordinate with each other and operate different senses and organ sports to make specific movements.(2) Movement coordination ability, coupled with movement skill, contributes greatly to movement coordination. Movement coordination ability is dynamically complementary with the skill during different periods of generating athletic coordination.(3) Movement coordination ability is modeled by human body’s structural functions of neural physiology and cognitive development. (4) Movement coordination is classified from two perspectives---the major parts of body involved in movements and movement environment. The former consists of the movement coordination among various combination of parts of body with or without the involvement of eyes and ear. The latter can be divided into movement coordination without apparatus or the one with apparatus, and movement coordination in a changing environment with apparatus or the one without apparatus.(5) The factors that influence coordination ability can be made up of mechanism layer factor, structure layer factor and condition layer factor. Different factors in these three layers exert effects of different degrees on movement coordination and movement coordination ability.(6) The indexes of the human rhythmic ability and the movement cognitive ability are developed in this research, which can be applied to testing and appraising.(7) The theoretical model on the human athletic coordination ability is proposed and proved through structural equation model in the research. The theoretical model is supported by testing data. According to the coefficient of standardized route, there are 5 components of movement coordination ability:movement cognitive ability, spatial orientation ability, reaction ability, proprioceptive ability and rhythmic ability.(8) Movement training can generally improve the coordination ability, which is reflected in three aspects:reaction, proprioception, spatial orientation, etc. Wushu training exerts comprehensive and active effect on the improvement of movement coordination ability. In addition, the training of ball events, field and tract events and aerobics also have a positive influence on the three aspects. For example, ball events training can obviously improve the attention of athletes, while track and field events’training have played a less important role in the coordination ability of athletes.
