| Current fast-paced cloud-computing technology presents a more equitable and open platformfor the general public to exchange opinions and information, which has created an unprecedentedchallenge for organizations striving to maintain effective communication with stakeholders, especially during a crisis situation. This dissertation is situated within the era of cloud-computingtechnology, especially in regards to the unique characteristics or patterns of information exchangemade possible through cloud-computing technology to explore the relevant processes andmechanisms for organizations to effectively manage communication with stakeholders duringcrises in the era of cloud-computing technology. This dissertation seeks to respond to the following research questions:(1) How does cloud-computing technology impact the traditional organization crisismanagement model and consequentially, how should the new crisis communication channel andcommunication mechanism differ from their traditional counterparts?(2) If compared with the pre-industrial stage, industrial revolution stage, industrialcivilization stage, and web1.0and web2.0stages, how does cloud-computing technology impactorganizational crisis communication, especially in view of a possible shift of technological andsocial paradigm?(3) What is the specific impact that cloud-computing technology may bring to organizationsin terms of organizational identity, organizational value, social responsibility, organizational profitand effective organizational management?(4) What are the distinctive characteristics of a new organizational crisis communicationmechanism that effectively reflect shifts from―gate keeper‖to―service provider,‖from―agendasetting‖to―platform-based setting,‖from―opinion waterfall‖to―opinion focus‖? Thisdissertation argues that such characteristics include how information is released from multipleresources situated within a web-structure, and how it is exchanged following patterned processesthrough a flatter communication channel and under an automatic cloud monitoring system.(5) What are the distinctive strategies to realize effective organizational crisis communicationmanagement in the era of cloud-computing on dimensions of IaaS, PaaS and SaaS ofcloud-computing technology? According to the characteristics of cloud era, we analyze itsinfluence on the relations of society, government, public, enterprise and media, and the transformof business crisis dissemination mechanism, as well as the features of business crisis and the wayto response brought by the new era. And we have observed the changes of the enterprise’sbusiness crisis system in the information age which helped us to establish a brand new system ofcrisis management consisted of new patterns, better mechanism, optimized processes, advancedtechniques and scientific methods.(3) This dissertation argues that since the IaaS dimension enables organizations to optimizedistribution of resources, PaaS dimension shapes the organizational crisis communicationmanagement structure, and SaaS dimension expands the application of organizational crisiscommunication management, an innovative approach of organizational crisis communication inthe era of cloud-computing technology could be that organizations redefine corresponding TIEmanagement principles and3T benchmarks, Proposed to handling business crisis, TIE principlemeans to do it thoroughly (T), immediately (I) and effectively (E), while each letter represents oneaspect of the principle. Meanwhile, we also need to pay attention to the3main factors whilefacing business crisis, they are technology, time and tendency, which we call3T Index. In actualoperation of the enterprise’s crisis management procedures, TIE principle and3T Index existinherently definite link. In crisis management, the enterprise must ensure the effectiveness of crisismanagement, guarantee the timeliness of crisis management through time element, and ensurethoroughness of crisis management, combine TIE principle and3T Index so as to ensure all ofcrisis management, finally form a stable structure of―a situation of tripartite confrontation‖. |
