The fabrication of inorganic metals and their compounds nanostructures with specialmorphologies on the metal substrates by the "bottom-up" self-organization process, application of molecular materials and devices, is a research hot spot in current nanoscienceand nanotechnology. In this thesis, based on the colloid and interface science, using special amphiphilicstructure of surfactant molecules self-assembled in aqueous solution as templates and asstructure-directing agents by their selective adsorption to a particular face, the controllablesynthesis of metal nanomaterials and their compounds with a rich variety of shapes on metalsubstrates have been achieved. The modulating mechanism of the surfactant moleculeshas been discussed. A detailed performance characterization of composition, structure andmorphology of as-obtained products has been presented. The optical properties and thephotocatalysis performance of the as-obtained products have also been investigated.One-dimensional Ag nanostructures and their self-assembled films were generated on Aland Cu substrates using different types of surfactants assisted. And the modulatingmechanism of surfactant was investigated systematically and synthetically.By taking advantage of surfactant molecule assisted and a mild solution-based route, Agmodified ZnO nanocrystals were fabricated. In the case of Ag modification in ZnOnanoparticles, silver can act as electron-hole separation centers and have a beneficialinfluence on the photoactivity of nanocrystalline semiconductor photocatalysts. Ag/ZnOheterostructure nanocrystals were synthesized one Zn substrate by a photodepositionmethod at low temperature. Ag/polycarbazole core/shell composites have been successfullysynthesized via a Polyvinylpyrrolidione (PVP)-assisted hydrothermal method. With the assistance of surfactant molecule, ZnS and Ag/ZnS heterostructures have beenfabricated on Zn substrate by a hydrothermal route. The mechanisms and effects of the typeof surfactant, amount, and the reaction time have been discussed.
