The importance of contemporary theater is in fact constituted by its body, symbols, media and performance, etc. It affects the rhetorical question of our times in two aspects:on the one hand, how does the code conversion happen on the internal structure of theater (proscenium stage, thrust stage, black box stage or a combination of stage)? on the other hand, outside the theater, how does the metaphor of theatre extends its meaning to social significance, and continuously generate many new scenarios:such as the code of the space or the "alienation landscape"?This thesis focuses on the graphics conversion on stage and spatial theatricality, the structure is divided into six chapters. Chapter1-.Introduction mainly clarifies three categories of the spatial coding:graphics conversion on Stage, spatial theatricality on public space and the phenomenon of isomorphism, as well as clarifies the methods and research priorities; Chapter2:The Code Conversion on Stage mainly focus on the rhetoric within the internal structure of theatre such as metaphor and metonymy, presentation and representation; Chapter3:Spatial Theatricality clarifies the contemporary trends in social space, and elaborates the graphics conversion mode between the social space and theatre space; Chapter4:Isomorphism elaborates a new graphics conversion mode between the social space and art space in the era of globalization,it also clarifies the fact that there exists the similar cognitive structure and logic in the different spaces; Chapter5:Differance of Space, mainly focus on the current situations in the era of globalization, I borrow the concept from linguists and use the metaphorical usage of word Differance to explain the gap " between the signifier and the signified "on spatial phenomena; Chapter6:Spatial Ethics elaborates the consequence of spatial ethics existing on alienation and overly pursuing spatial theatricality including impressiveness and spectacular. In this thesis, I use the case studies on Shanghai Theater and sculpture space; some of analyses use fieldwork as well as theoretical analysis.
