In the 21st century,problems in areas such as architecture and affection,architecture language and cognition of architectural time and space become prominent in contemporary architecture.While the traditional Subject-Object thinking mode sets up a dichotomy between human and architecture,spirit and material,and time and space,topics for discussion in architecture can not be sustained if such a thinking mode is maintained.From the perspective of architectural study,introducing phenomenology into the study on architecture is flourishing as studying architecture from the physical point of view has become the classical thesis in architecture and theories such as "Embodied cognition" and "Body thinking" are providing illuminating insight into architectural study.From the perspective of the current development of philosophical thinking,new concepts emerge in philosophy which emphasize what underlies everything instead of getting to the bottom of an issue to seek eternal truth.They don't treat a problem in a "Subject-Object" way,but rather emphasize the consolidation of the subject and the object.The research on temporal dimensions of architecture is proposed in such a research background.The traditional architectural time discusses the eternal time and space in concrete reality,which is a metaphysical space-time theory of architecture based on objective and physical time.What the concept of internal time architecture discusses is the temporal dimensions of architecture which can be seen as an architectural experience based on objective and mental time.It focuses on the disclosure of the architectural phenomenon where the body,time and space mingle with each other,aiming to explain the phenomenon rather than exploring eternal law.Architectural perception,an experience acquired when the space is transported into internal time by the body,is characteristic of spatial and temporal dimensions.The architectures exist side by side in the spatial dimensions and permeate and dissolve each other in the temporal dimensions,ending up with an existence in stretches of time.Internal time architecture is an internal temporal dimensions of architecture,namely how men understand one's heart or cognize in architecture.The way to acquire the internal temporal dimensions of architecture is an input process from space to internal time,while its manifestation is an output process from internal time to space.The outputs of the internal temporal dimensions of architecture contribute to the various phenomena in today's architecture.Based on the formal mechanism of the internal temporal dimensions of architecture,the study puts forward the concept of internal time architecture perceiving architecture from visual space to perceptual space.This concept proposes to understand architecture through rational perception and experience architecture through sensory perception,whose perception of architecture is a process of insight and understanding.The concept of internal time architecture isn't directed against a certain type of architecture.Instead,it discloses the existing phenomenon of architecture,deeming that the source of the existence of architecture is material,but needs to acquire meaning in internal time.In reality,the spatial dimensions are manifested,while the temporal dimensions are covert.Through the methodology in phenomenology,the concept of internal time architecture discloses the covert temporal dimensions of architecture,restoring a more realistic picture of architecture.
