Cao Yu's classic trilogy including Thunderstorm(1934),Sunrise(1936),The Wilderness(1937)has been played for a long time on stage since published.The charm of Classics lies in its deep involving of human philosophical propositions,and thus it provides people wide and constant interpretation space.Cao Yu's classic trilogy has lived through the development of aesthetic ideology of Chinese stage creation.Therefore,it reflects different aesthetic pursuits and aesthetic accomplishments of directors in different historical periods.Wang Yansong is a famous Chinese contemporary theater director.So far,he has completed 43 stage works.From 2006 to 2008,he has continuously created “the new interpretation of Cao Yu's classic trilogy”,which has broke the general interpretation in sense of vulgar sociology and the performing mode of realism drama.Standing on the contemporary cultural position and mixing the modernism aesthetics with modern performing elements,his works have not only revealed and sublimated the charm of Cao Yu's classic trilogy,but also have made its performance come upon a new stage on the horizon of poetic aesthetics.With a view to the aesthetic characteristics of Wang Yansong's “new interpretation of Cao Yu's classic trilogy”as a stating point,and taking the interpretation history and performing history of Cao Yu's classic trilogy as a historical frame of reference,this dissertation builds a research on Wang Yansong's new interpretation,new adaptation,and new stage presentation of Cao Yu's classic trilogy,thus explores and analyzes the unique aesthetic style and the principle of aesthetic construction of Wang Yansong's “new interpretation of Cao Yu's classic trilogy”.This dissertation includes four chapters.According to the timing of Wang Yansong's creation of “the new interpretation of Cao Yu's classic trilogy”,it discusses the theme interpretation,imago digging,image building,stage direction,character shaping,atmosphere rendering during Wang Yansong's creation of “the new interpretation of Cao Yu's classic trilogy”.Based on the analysis on the generation of Wang Yansong's director vocabulary,the core of his directing method,the operation of his directing process,this dissertation runs a dynamic analysis on the construction principle of poetry aesthetic characteristics of Wang Yansong's “new interpretation of Cao Yu's classic trilogy”.The first chapter mainly discusses on Wang Yansong's new interpreted Wilderness' s stage,how do his three group of director vocabularies “the ancient tomb figures”,“the cello” and the “two benches” come out from his interpretation of Cao Yu's The Wilderness,and how do those director vocabularies open a new vision and new path of symbolic narrative,by which the earth imago and the mysterious poetry hidden in Cao Yu's The Wilderness have been revealed,and by which this work has changed the previous social ideology's interpretation and the performing form of farmer revenge story,and has formed the unique aesthetic artistic conception on Wang Yansong's new interpreted Wilderness' s poetic stage.The second chapter focuses on Wang Yansong's new interpreted Thunderstorm,discusses according to Wang Yansong ‘s interpretation of Cao Yu's Thunderstorm,how he created a new stage vision which includes literature text,auditory text and visual text,and how has this vision revealed the cruel poetry and the tragic spirit of ancient Creek tragedy hidden in Cao Yu's Thunderstorm.like in the literature text,with the new interpretation of the characters and new finding of narrative thread,he revealed the reciprocating sadness within Thunderstorm,and in auditory text,by adding choir singing poetry no long of Cao Yu,he restore the prelude and the end of Thunderstorm,and thus it revealed Cao Yu's compassion feelings.In visual text,by removing Lu family's scene,he present a poetic and united space-time.And finally he presents the should-be poetic distance and poetic aesthetics expected by Cao Yu for a long time.The third chapter inspects and discusses the creation process and aesthetic characteristic of Wang Yansong's new interpreted Sunrise through the “new interpretation”,“new narrative”,“new stage style” three dimensions.By interpreting the sunrise in Sunrise as the the salvation of heart,Wang Yansong construct a “soul narrative” with the main character Chen Bailu.And at the same time he adopt an impressionism aesthetic style lights,music and set implementation on stage which is full of modernity aesthetic,and thus release a more bright life standpoint hidden in Cao Yu's Sunrise to the modern audience.The fourth chapter,based on the content in previous three chapters,will extract and summarize Wang Yansong's unique aesthetic thinking and poetic wisdom,which is hidden in the process of his facing with the playwright,actors,audience and modern aesthetic demand when he created “new interpretation of Cao Yu's classic trilogy”.Thus,from former three chapters to chapter four,this dissertation has built a tension structureby finding and analyzing limited artistic phenomenon to explore and reflect the infinite artistic rules.Based on the above contents,this dissertation illuminates Wang Yansong's working attitude and method of respecting the writer and his works,returning to classical text to dig the poetic imago and the connotation of human nature.This dissertation has revealed how Wang Yansong reconstituted the structure and rhythm of the text based on his adaptation rules that “only delete and revise but not temper the original classic text”.Meanwhile,this dissertation has summed up Wang Yansong' artistic experience of paying close attention to the era and audience,examining his creation by the name of audience,and calling the aesthetic creativity.Because of those,his “new interpretation of Cao Yu's classic trilogy” has made Cao Yu's classic works full of poetic aesthetics characteristic on modern stage.
