The Study On The Meaning Of Korean Wearing Verbs

Summary From the perspective of cognitive linguistics,the creation,learning and application of language basically has to be explained by human cognition.Cognitive linguistics can clarify the relevance between language,body,mind and culture.People make analogy and association with the universe based on their own cognitive experience,acquire knowledge of things they are relatively familiar with,the specific selves and their surroundings,continuously gain perception and imagination on the relatively complex and abstract things,and gradually deepen their understanding about the objective world.When new things and phenomena arise,one way is to create new vocabularies,and the other is to conduct semantic expansion of the existing related vocabularies which results in polysemy.A word with two and more relevant semantic meanings is called polysemous word.To study the association between the semantic meanings of the polysemous word is one of the main subjects of cognitive linguistics.Verbs related to wearing are widely used as expressing the clothing,food,housing and transportation in daily life.So far,the study on the wearing related Korean verbs is basically confined to studying the semantic meaning of the word itself.Even the study on their semantic expansion in practical use is limited to certain verbs.However,wearing related verbs,show diversity in their use of expanded meanings.This paper aims to study the wearing related Korean verbs by way of image schema,their semantic expansion mechanism and expansion direction,to expound the process of expansion through the construction of the semantic network,and finally to analyze the commonalities and differences of their semantic expansion by comparing the semantic expansion of each wearing related Korean words.The semantic study of wearing related Korean verbs can not only explore the semantic expansion of verbs,but also clarify the vocabulary generation mechanism.This study is of great signific ance to the study of polysemy and cognitive linguistics.In order to study the semantic meanings of wearing related Korean verbs from the perspective of cognitive linguistics,the second chapter of this paper mainly theoretically discusses the concept,prototype meaning,expanded meaning,semantic network and image schema.In the third chapter,we mainly conduct semantic analysis to the Korean verbs(?)(?).First,we compare the analysis of wearing related Korean verbs in the major dictionaries.Based on the prototype theory,by sorting up the practical use of wearing related Korean verbs,we analyze the semantic expansion phenomena of each verb,set the prototype semantic meaning of each verb and their expanded semantic meaning,so as to construct the semantic network of each type of wearing related Korean verbs.Based on the above analysis,the fourth chapter comprehensively compares the semantic expansion of wearing related Korean verbs,and analyzes the commonalities and differences of their semantic expansion.The fifth chapter is overall summary.
