The Comparative Study Of Chinese Contemporary Government Trust

The condition of government trust and its influence are overarching concern for theory and practice in recent years. It has formed two kinds of completely different views to this issue:One is that the government trust of Chinese resident is relatively high; the other one takes the opposite view. It may be due to the research perspective and the design of the measurement index, or it may be due to differences of research methods especially the sampling error during the data acquisition process.On this account, with the theoretical analysis perspective of the combination of institutional performance and social culture, on the basic of the data of authoritative national survey (CSS2006and CGSS2010), this article uses horizontal and vertical comparative approach to analysis the condition and influence factors of the government trust of our country roundly and systematically. This article draws the following conclusion.It's important to note that the theme of this article is the comparative study of government trust, it only contains the quantitative description without the specialized qualitative study which is a complicated issue. On the basic of comparative study, this article focus on describing and explaining the change trend and difference of government trust.Firstly, in the comparison between government trust of urban and rural resident, this article found that there is a relatively large difference between them: from2006to2010, the central government trust has a downward trends in urban residents while the central government trust of rural residents remains fairly constant; the local government trust of both urban and rural residents has a trend of rising.Secondly, to do the influence factor comparison analysis on government trust, this article found that the degree of education has a negative effects, which is more and more obvious on the government trust of urban and rural residents. In addition, government performance and social culture are the key factors which influence the government trust of urban and rural residents all the time.Thirdly, in the comparison of government trust among residents of different classes, this article found that the trend of'the central is strong while the local is weak' still exists. Here is the presentation: besides a modest rise of the trust of the leading class residents to central government in2010, trust of residents of other classes to central and local government has a trend of declining, and the declining of trust to local government is steeper.Fourthly, to do comparative analysis to the influence factor of trust of residents to government, this article found that government performance and interpersonal trust have positive significant influence on trust degree of residents of all classes to government, while influence direction and strength of the specific measurement index of authoritarian tendencies has changed. Here is the specific performance:the positive influence of the factor of obedience to government declines remarkably, the influence of the factor of disposal to tax of government to the factor of trust of residents to government shifts from negative in part to negative entirely. It means that with the development of economics, people pay more attention to government on the usage of tax. All classes hope that government can use the tax reasonably according to the rules and regulations. They do not follow blindly to government.Fifthly, in the comparison among different districts, this article found that trust of the residents to government has a trend of declining in general, while changing tendency of the government trust of residents from different districts varies. Here is the specific performance: compared to eastern and central area residents, the central government trust degree of western residents has highest score. The local government trust degree of western region has a most obvious change. From2006to2010, it rises from lowest to highest.Sixthly, after the comparison analysis of influence factors of the government trust from residents of different regions, this article found that the explanatory power of variables of social-demographic features, social culture and government performance to government trust is increasing year by year.
