Along with the rapid development of Internet of things, cloud computing and the communication technology, more and more smart cities turn attention to smart mobile devices, to use them in the application layer and sensing layer, as input and output data tools and the nerve endings of the huge systems. Smart city mobile terminal applications begin to sprout. How to operate on mobile terminals decides whether the whole operating mechanism of the system work effectively, so is critical to the success of the smart city. And the design and development of mobile devices in this era full of smart and intelligence, is faced with challenges totally different from the traditional technology and environmental. New paradigm brings the opportunity of innovation, but at the same time a variety of problems. Applying or referring to the old patterns and ways cannot solve the problems gradually appearing. New methods are being explored, has not yet been established. It not only necessary to summarize existing research and practice experience from the subject’s own field, but also need inspiration and ideas from other disciplines.This thesis is aimed at making up for this gap, put forward research of smart city mobile terminals based on semiotic theory, creating a set of specialized method for designing, development and research interactive interfaces of mobile terminals for smart cities, also trying to set it as a breakthrough point, to explore the design and development mode applicable to the specific situation of mobile interfaces in the background of this smart era. This is the focus issue in the computing field in the next few decades, which influences how we perceive and use computers in the future.This thesis integrates the various schools of the theory of semiotics, analyzes interactive interfaces of mobile terminals from three aspects of syntactics, semantics and pragmatics, makes in-depth exploration of organizational form, symbol element, meaning, transmission process, and users’cognition, absorbs the nutrition of a wide variety of HCI related subjects from other academic disciplines, summarizes the design method and principle, puts forward extraction way of urban symbol, concludes the flow and procedure of designing and developing interactive interfaces of mobile terminals for smart cities, finally analyzes the typical cases of mobile terminals of smart cities, makes prospects of the future development direction of interactive interfaces of mobile terminals in the smart era.Semiotics, as a new subject in the twentieth century, plays its unique role of methodology, developed to be the theory source of postmodernism and the theory tool for understanding the physical world existing laws. This thesis introduces the semiotics theory into the terminal systems of smart cities, to resolve the problems of obscurity generated by miscellaneous technologies and agnosia produced by virtual operating. Finding a balance between different dimensions, make the interactive interfaces effectively play the role of function, at the same time bring emotional care of urban culture.
