An Analysis Of Big Data Initiatives And Their Impact On Organizational Capabilities And Benefits

Business and Industry leaders as well as research associates have a great enthusiasm from the onset of big data technology and its usage in relevant technologies,research and business.There is a stream of big data techniques,tools and technologies developed in recent years.Application of big data into diverse fields has provided a mandate to explore its benefits for business organizations enabling them to harness the power of big data to increase value from their processes.This research focused on how big data helps organizations gain capabilities to achieve their objectives;distinct capabilities were pointed out during the research which could help an organization achieve strategic advantage over competitors.As result of this research,the overview of big data contribution in various areas will help organizations to undertake big data initiatives as well as streamline their current big data initiatives for greater benefits.With the help of mixed research method approach,qualitative as well as quantitative data was collected from 334 respondents from 12 major regions of the world with the help of online questionnaire,paper-based questionnaires,structured interviews,case-studies and documents presented and obtained from various organizations.Literature of the organizations as well as the latest research in the area was reviewed for identification of the capabilities desired by organizations when deciding to go for the decision to implement big data initiatives.For latest practical knowledge case-studies were carried out on three organizations and from structured interviews and documents;a model of big data capabilities,benefits,challenges and critical success factors was developed.The survey was carried out with the help of questionnaire developed from the model and from various statistical tests,hypothesis were tested and found that organizational capabilities("Access to Information","Analytic Capability","Leadership Ability","Agility" and "Decision Making".)gained from big data implementation were strongly and positively related with the big data benefits(“Creation Of Innovative Environment”,“Management Of Complexity In Processes”,“Successful Completion Of Projects”,“Increase In Operational Efficiency”,“Generation Of New Knowledge” And “Adoption Of Best Practices In Its Activities”.)for the organization.
