Background: Ventricular arrhythmia post myocardial infarction is the most important risk factorfor sudden cardiac death,which poses serious harm to human health.As the correlation of autonomic nervous systemicdysfunction and heart rhythm abnormality has been gradually revealed.Remedies targeting autonomic nerve systemic dysfunction,especially the sympathetic nerve appear constantly.Among them renal denervation is noted for its powerful effect on inhibition of sympathetic nerve activity.Objectives: We aim to investigate whether renal denervation could reduce ventricular arrhythmia post myocardial infarction and thus decrease the risk of sudden cardiac death.And we also try to explore the potential mechanism in the sight of nerve activity and remodeling.Methods: Twenty-four beagle dogs were randomized to Control group(n=4),Renal denervation group(n=10)and Sham group(n=10).Permanent anterior descending artery ligation was performed to establish myocardial infarction model in the latter two groups.Renal denervation animals underwent surgical and chemical renal denervation.Results: Compared with sham group,RDN dogs demonstrated attenuated effective refractory periods shortening and effective refractory periods inhomogeneity,flattened restitution slope,increased ventricular threshold and decreased ventriculararrhythmia.Heart rate variability,catecholamine measurement and the recording of nerve discharge all indicated inhibition of holistic and local tissular sympathetic nerve tone.Tissue analysis revealed a significant decreaseof neural modeling in both heart and the stellate ganglion.Conclusions: Surgical and chemical renal denervation decreased the whole body and local tissular sympathetic activity;reversed neural remodeling in the heart and stellate ganglion.Thus it led to a beneficial remodeling of electrophysiological characteristic in the infarction border zone,translating in to a decrease in the ventricular arrhythmia post myocardial infarction.
