The identity issue has been one of the most important topics in the study of contemporary Chinese literature.A common concern among contemporary Chinese literary writers is to find a way to establish a unique ethnic identity for themselves in their host country.However,the discussion of identity issue has mostly centered on identity recognition.Few have made a profound deliberation on identity anxiety or the interwound relationship between identity anxiety and identity recognition.By examining various characteristics of identity anxiety and analyzing the underlying causes of them,the author attempts a systematic and in-depth study in this area,synchronically and diachronicallyIn the first chapter,she defines the objects and scope of study,analyzes the distinct concepts of ethnic Chinese literature,literature written in Chinese and literary works by Chinese authors in other languages.Thereafter,she argues for the feasibility and necessity of blending literature written in Chinese into Chinese authors' works written in various languages.The second chapter is devoted to the discussion of the characteristics of identity anxiety in Chinese American literature,such as Aphasia,psychological health issues and suicidal tendency,and explores identity anxiety's profound impacts on ethnic diaspora.In the third chapter,the author,overcoming the challenges such as theinstability and uncontrollability of identity anxiety among naturally reticent Chinese people,ultimately locates numerous complex underlying causes of identity anxiety.Moreover,she contemplates Chinese American literary writers' various efforts and resolutions of their identity anxiety and identity recognition,as well as their achievements in identity construction;hence,the possibility of coexistence of different cultures in a globalized era.Finally,a summation is presented of the complexity,variability and diversity of identity anxiety in Chinese American literary,aiming to make a contribution to the correlation research in contemporary Chinese literature.In the course of her research,the author conducts both theoretical discussions and case analyses.Meanwhile,she strives to pinpoint,thorough perception and understanding of identity recognition and identity anxiety,and the sophisticated process of mental activities.Thus,she was able to shed light on the unique temperaments which novelists develop in modern writing.
