The Study Of Referential Functions Of "yi+classifier+NP" Under The Perspective Of FDG

"yi+classifier+NP" is a kind of typical noun phrases in modern Chinese.Generally speaking,NPs are provided with referential functions,as well as "yi+classifier+NP".In modern Chinese,referential uses of "yi+classifier+NP"can be divided into identifiable,nonidentifiable,and generic,whereas its non-referential uses include attributive use and quantity expression.Previous studies mainly paid attention to "indifinite/difinite" features of "yi+classifier+NP",while other functions of the structure have been ignored.Meanwhile,there lacks researches from the perspective of discourse&discourse function.On the basis of Functional Discourse Grammar(FDG),this dissertation discusses referential and non-referential functions of "yi+classifier+NP" from three FDG levels:Interpersonal,Representational,and Morphosyntactic Levels.The dissertation can be divided into eight chapters,the main contents are as follows:Chapter 1 serves as an introduction that introduces research topics,research assignments,research status and the specific scope of this study.Moreover,the chapter raises research methods of this research,as well as research significance.Chapter 2 introduces three levels in Functional Discourse Grammar.Firstly,it briefly introduces the origin and main features of FDG.Secondly,it discusses concepts and layers of Interpersonal Level,Representational Level,and Morphosyntactic Level.Thirdly,it represents the types of content frames in IL,SoAs frames in RL,clause frames in ML,and gives difinitions to each type respectively.Chapter 3 mainly discusses about nonidentifiable functions of "yi+classifier+NP".Firstly,the chapter distinguishes differences between "referential/non-referential","identifiable/nonid-entifiable",and introduces several forms of nonidentifiable elements,as well as the possible methods to discern them.Based on the methods,we put forward the criterions for nonidentifiable "yi+classifier+NP",and discuss its subordinate categorizations.Secondly,in Interpersonal Level,the chapter discusses various communicative intentions in different content frames,and points out that interpersonal functions of"yi+classifier+NP" in an utterance should be three ty-pes:global topic,partial topic,and non-topic,which can be regarded as foreground/background information respectively.In content frames with an identificational focus,background information represented by "yi+classifier+NP" has the possibility of foregrounding.Thirdly,in Representational Level,it discusses different semantic representations and semantic entity types of "yi+classifier+NP".Finally,in Morphosyntactic Level,it analyzes various types of clause frames which contain "yi+classifier+NP",and mainly explains the specific characteristics of Existential clause and Identificational focus clause.Chapter 4 mainly discusses about identifiable functions of "yi+classifier+NP".Firstly,the chapter introduces concepts and relative forms of identifiable elements,and puts forward the criterions for identifiable "yi+classifier+NP",and discuss its subordinate categorizations.Secondly,in Interpersonal Level,the chapter mainly discusses various communicative intentions and interpersonal functions of "yi+classifier+NP"in different content frames,and especially explains the reason why"yi+classifier+NP" as the beginning of narrative cannot be replaced by other identifiable forms.Thirdly,in Representational Level,it discusses different semantic representations and semantic entity types of "yi+classifier+NP",and explains the reasons of correlation phenomenon.Finally,in Morphosyntactic Level,it introduces various types of clause frames which contain "yi+classifier+NP",and analyzes their interpersonal,representational features.Chapter 5 mainly discusses about generic functions of "yi+classifier+NP".Firstly,the chapter defines the conception of generic,and discusses specific uses of generic "yi+classifier+NP",in order to put forward the criterions for generic "yi+classifier+NP".Secondly,in Interpersonal Level,the chapter mainly discusses various communicative intentions and interpersonal functions of"yi+classifier+NP" in different content frames.Moreover.it discusses personal stance,social and cultural stance and interactive stance of "yi+classifier+NP" in narrative and expository utterance,and through it,the reason why "yi+classifier+NP" cannot be replaced by other generic forms can be explained.Thirdly,in Representational Level,it discusses different semantic representations of"yi+classifier+NP",and explains the reasons behind its semantic representations from the perspective of cognitive significance,social conventions of language use,and the evocation of property.Besides,it discusses different modality types of irreal SoAs.Finally,in Morphosyntactic Level,it introduces various types of clause frames which contain "yi+classifier+NP",and analyzes the interpersonal reasons lies in "Left-Right" clause.Chapter 6 mainly discusses about attributive functions of"yi+classifier+NP".Firstly,the chapter defines the conception and discusses specific uses of attributive "yi+classifier+NP",then puts forward the criterions for it.Secondly,in Interpersonal Level,the chapter mainly discusses various communicative intentions and interpersonal functions of "yi+classifier+NP" in different content frames.Besides,it distinguishes the differences between categorical and thetic di-scourse act.Thirdly,in Representational Level,it discusses different semantic representations o-f "yi+classifier+NP".In Classficational SoA,the semantic representations of"yi+classifier+NP"have relation with Undergoer,and types of VP;in Predication SoA,its semantic representations are connected with their content frames in IL.Finally,in Morphosyntactic Level,it introduces various types of clause frames which contain "yi+classifier+NP",and makes a comparison between the "Left-Right" clause and the"Left-Middle-Right"clause.Chapter 7 mainly discusses about quantity-presentation functions of "yi+classifier+NP".Firstly,the chapter defines the conception of "yi+classifier+NP"and discusses detailed criterions for classification,from the angle of subjective/objective evaluation.Secondly,in Interpersonal Level,the chapter mainly discusses different kinds of "yi+classifier+NP" in different content frames.In various discourse acts,"yi+classifier+NP" may be subjective/objective quantities,which can be influenced by their interpersonal functions.Thirdly,in Representational Level,it discusses different semantic representations of "yi+classifier+NP".yi+classifier+NP" can be placed in Existential SoAs and Predication SoAs,representing different semantic representations.Besides,the modality of SoAs also affects its semantic representations.Finally,in Morphosyntactic Level,it introduces various types of clause frames which contain "yi+classifier+NP",the alignment of "yi+classifier+NP"would be affected by its interpersonal,representational features.Yet,the alignment of "yi+classifier+NP"in Existential clause is decided by syntactic reasons.Chapter 8 is conclusion,briefly summarizes main ideas and conclusions of the dissertation.Also,it proposes several shortcomings of the research,and prospects the studies in the future.
