| In recent years,translation competence models both in China and abroad are mostly theoretical discussions,and empirical study of translation test is comparatively rare.These models are not suitable for the study of Chinese-English translation competence.Besides,diagnostic test has failed to arouse enough attention.The study mainly deals with the following three questions:1)What are the components of C-E translation competence?2)How shall we design and develop the C-E translation competence diagnostic test based on sentence group?3)What are the reliability and validity of the translation competence diagnostic test?The study proposes that C-E translation competence consists of sub-competences,namely,bilingual competence,translation strategic competence,translation professional knowledge,etc.These sub-competences complement each other and work as a whole in the translation process.Based on this C-E translation competence model and the communicative language testing theory,a translation competence diagnostic test is designed which comprises test specifications,test items and test rubrics.It proves that the C-E translation competence model proposed in this study is reasonable.The experiment illustrates that it is feasible to design C-E translation diagnostic test based on sentence group.The effectiveness of the experimental test suggests that the principles of translation test design may provide clues to the designing of translation items and scoring criteria,and motivate future translation testing to be more standardized,scientific and normative.The genre and the theme of the test material are suitable,the difficulty and the length are moderate,which are consistent to the content of the translation class.According to the diagnostic feedback and the detailed scoring scales,the subjects are able to discern their own problems and deficiency independently.Besides,the research can make up for the deficiency of translation test in rating scales and scoring procedures. |
