| The purpose of Mel’?uk’s linguistics research is to realize machine translation and the theory of “meaning ? text” is the theoretical foundation.“Meaning ? text” model is to imitate the process of human speech acts and complete the two-way conversion from meaning to text.Mel’?uk divides the conversion process into four layers: phonetics, form, syntax, semantics, and the transition between the two layers is supported by the corresponding theory.Mel’?uk’s linguistic research thus covers all aspects of linguistics, such as morphology, syntactic and semantics.Mel’?uk has absorbed the semiotics in the study of morphology, and focused morphological research on morphological symbols. He argues that morphological symbols refer to a ternary structure including the signified(morphological meaning),signifier(morphological means)and syntactics. In the aspect of morphological notation,Mel’?uk first separates the grammatical meaning from traditional lexical meaning, and then divides grammatical meaning into two stratums, namely semantic stratum and syntactic stratum, according to the impact of grammatical meaning on different linguistic layers.Mel’?uk continuously classifies semantic stratum grammatical meaning into statement facts and language facts, and studies syntactic stratum grammatical meaning from the point of the syntactic role. From the perspective of pan-language,Mel’?uk’s has studied symbolic means, selected more than 100 kinds of natural languages as research corpus, divided the morphological means into physical means and means of operation, and put forward the hierarchical relationship among morphological means.Mel’?uk’s research on morphological syntactics still holds the characteristics of pan-language,and puts forward 22 characteristics of morphological syntactics which are applicable to all natural languages, including five general characteristics,5 exclusive characteristics of morphological means and twelve lexical exclusive characteristics. Our paper aims to introduce and explain the theory of Mel’?uk’s morphology,as well as to study Chinese corpus from the perspective of Mel’?uk’s morphological theory. We not only confirm the beauty and universality of Mel’?uk’s morphology theory, but also provides a new idea for the study of Chinese morphology. |
