Research On The Safari Image In The Stone Relief Of The Han Dynasty

Hunting is a kind of activity developed with human being's evolution,initially as a means of obtaining meat,and later gradually been given more and more cultural connotations.From the Han dynasty literary works such as Shuowen Jiezi(??????),the first Chinese dictionary,compiled by Xu Shen,121 A.D.,it can also be seen that people understood "hunting" at that time by emphasizing the two general directions of capturing and possessing animals and emphasizing the artificial rules behind military affairs and etiquette.This essay explores the presentation of the former and its derivative meanings in the image.In this sense,it can be said that this article explores how a Han Dynasty's perception affects the production of images in tombs.The hunting images investigated in this paper are one kind of hunting images and one of the important topics in the stone relief of Han Dynasty.Hunting images For the special purpose of the graves,some of the significance of hunting activities were selected,deformed and processed.In this paper,the study of hunting images from four aspects: classification and definition of hunting images,the elements of these images will be analysis,process detail in hunting activities to be investigated,the image will be studied by placed in the structure of tombs.These four aspects constitute the four chapters of the body of this article.Based on the systematic collection and sorting of the hunting images in the Han Dynasty,this paper classified the hunting theme images according to the images and considered the different types of hunting activities behind the different images.On this basis,the discussion will focus on the portraiture of "Safari" which is considered as "the hunt image in the open environment of the open air",as a performance of hunting for entertainment.In this paper,disassembled research on such images,the screen is divided into prey,hunting tools,hunting participants were investigated in three areas.Compared with the archeological materials and literature materials,we can see that there are many kinds and quantities of hunting in the images,hunting tools,tools and participants.Through disassembly and analysis of the various elements,we can find the hunting image is a combination of dual characteristics: on the one hand,the image creators are faithful to the performance of the real hunting activities that they can access without giving them more and more complicated culture meaning.On the other hand,the seemingly "realistic" performance of real activities is full of simplification,distortion and symbolization.There are some essential difference in representation between theme hunting and the historical stories.Although the former has somewhat procedural,it is not necessarily observed in lower-middle class hunting.Historical stories,however,must be composed of episodes promote.The activities recorded in the literature contain not only hunting procedures but also a set of social order.The description of theactivity procedure is actually an emphasis on the social order.the Safari images downplayed the provisions of the etiquette order,which emphasized in the literature,by simplifying and styling the activities.On the other hand,it highlighting the amusement and desire-satisfaction characteristics of hunting activities.In the image system related to tombs,some are not merely expressions of ideal life,but also presented as the Han Dynasty concept of "Outer Store(??)".Through the contrast between the image and the literary with structure of the "seven",named by Wen Xuan or Selections of Refined Literature(????),compiled by Xiao Tong(501A.D.-531 A.D.),this paper further points out that the composition of this concept is not completely random and meaning-single,but contains stability inner structure composed by themes: hunting,feast,food,palace and other few options.In other words,these themes presented by the images also present a conceptual structure of the Han people.It is in the double structure of schema and spirit that the portrait of the hunting theme has its complete significance.
