In the directing and acting programs of modern drama schools,classic plays are the first choice of teachers and students for ideology and artistry.Shakespeare is a beacon in the history of literature as well as a superstar in history of the theatre.So undoubtedly it is of indispensable teaching value to choose Shakespeare's play as training material of directing and acting.This thesis is on the subject of “A Study on Chinese Contemporary Acting and Directing Teaching Practice of the Classic Plays-Taking Shakespeare's Works as an Example”-to explore practical role and significance of Shakespeare's work on directing and acting.It is centered on teaching stage of full-length play rehearsal which is the highest stage of cultivating talents in four-year directing and acting course: the mastering of characterization for the acting students and the cultivation of the performance image creation for the directing students.At the same time it is deliberated and expounded based on the famous expert of theatre directing and acting,professor teaching and rehearsal of Shakespeare's work.In addition to the introduction and the conclusion,the thesis is going to elaborate the following five chapters.The first chapter is to expound that Shakespeare's works have been frequently taken in cultivating directing and acting talents of theatre academies in contemporary China according to the survey of the teaching and production history(1980-2017)of Shakespeare's plays in The Central Academy of Drama and Shanghai Theatre Academy annually.The second chapter is to explore the traits of Shakespeare's work like literature and theatricality,drama theme,character image,dramatic conflicts,assumption etc.,and to further expound the integral and comprehensive teaching charm of Shakespeare's plays in directing and d in drama schools.The third chapter,started from performance teaching,and cultivating,mainly expounds that cultivating students to have a complete command of “characterization creation” is the core of teaching from our contemporary theatre academies of the senior grades of teaching stage of full-length play rehearsal.Nevertheless,the rich characters world that Shakespeare created is the golden role to cultivate students mastering creation skills and approaches of acting.The fourth chapter,started from directing teaching side,mainly expounds that cultivating directing talents from our contemporary theatre academies in senior grades by teaching stage of full-length play rehearsal,and cultivating students to have a complete command of “performance image creation” may be the teaching key.Further,in the Shakespeare's work,the immeasurable digging space that the inner themes and outer stage performance have created,is the grindstone to cultivating students commanding creation ways of directing.The fifth chapter,based on the students' level of interest in the classic plays in the practice of directing and acting training,focuses on making a proposal,that is,to bring Shakespeare's plays as a regular content into the directing and acting programs in the drama schools of China.
