The Linguistic Geographical Study Of Phonetic Phenomena In Mongolian Dialects

This dissertation mainly applies the method of linguistic geography to describe the geographical distribution of phonetic phenomena in Mongolian dialects of Obor Mongol.It focuses on the investigations of the geographical distribution of Mongolian phonetic correspondence(alternation).Linguistic geography is a discipline that studies how differences in dialects manifest in geographic space.The research aims to describe the geographical distribution of phonetic phenomena in Mongolian dialects using dialect maps,and to explain the internal differences in Mongolian dialects.The change in the spatial distribution of language may be motivated by the language itself,or the internal development rules of the language are at work.However as a product of society,language cannot exist independently from society.The spatial distribution and diffusion of language phenomena cannot get rid of the influence of many factors such as natural geography,social development,political events,ethnic migration,and population changes on language.The dissertation is composed of four parts: preface,chapter one,chapter two,conclusion.The preface briefly discusses the previous research on Mongolian dialects and the survey of Mongolian dialect geography.The first chapter briefly discusses the generation and development of dialect geography(linguistic geography),and briefly introduces the relevant terms of dialect geography,such as dialect map,geographical distribution,and isogloss.Dialect maps include place names(locality dots),base map,symbols and some other contents.The second chapter is the main part of the dissertation.We apply the dialect map method to describe the geographical distribution of the vowel correspondence and the geographical distribution of the consonant correspondence(alternation)phenomena.In the article,107 maps are drawn,and phonetic phenomena are described according to the dialect map.The dialect map is an indispensable part of this article.At the same time,it analyzes the hidden reasons that behind the geographical distribution of phonetic phenomena and makes a useful attempts to explain the dialect map.The part of the conclusion summarizes the full text and further considers the next stage of research.
