During the period when the new and the old civilizations were alternating and the situation was turbulent and chaotic,university presidents,as ideological leaders in a transitional era of the Republic of China,how did they acquire their higher education thoughts? Based on the perspective of context,this paper gives a detailed analysis of the main contexts and related factors that played a role in the formation of the higher education thoughts of famous university presidents in the Republic of China.At the end of the Qing dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China,the traditional social,political,economic,educational and cultural system laid a certain social and cultural foundation for the germination of the higher education thought of famous university presidents in the Republic of China.The west wind and the east trend of thoughts such as the western modernity concept system provided the thought source and the catalyst for the higher education thought of famous university presidents in the Republic of China.Confucian culture became the original ecological ideological and cultural context of their higher education thoughts.The specific regional culture scene greatly influenced their higher education temperament and academic preference,and laid the foundation of their personal thinking for the formation of higher education thought.Under the educational culture context: although the knowledge structure of the famous university presidents in the Republic of China had some commonalities,the different educational culture context of the overseas student groups in German and American resulted in the differences in knowledge structure and thinking mode.During the period of the Republic of China,university presidents acquired or perceived the resources of western university educational ideas and ancient Greek philosophical thoughts,which laid the source foundation of higher education thoughts for them to preside over universities after they returned to China.Under the social service context: working in the compilation or translation house and newspaper office provided a refinery for the exchange and development of the higher education thoughts of the famous university presidents.The contacts accumulated during the period of government service provided much conveniences for them to run the university and guarantee the normal operation of the university.University is the most critical career experience,which can deepen their perception and recognition of the higher education system,and provided a basis for them to put forward targeted suggestions.Under the background of the educational context and the social service context,the higher education thoughts present the characteristics of derivative dependence,Chinese and western hybridization,idealism and foresight,publicity and criticality.The continuous transformation of the context had an impact on the mental cognition and development of the higher education ideology of the famous university presidents,with conflict and adjustment of the consciousness of nationalism and liberalism thrown in.It was occasionally possible to adjust the thinking of higher education management communication between the political field and the academic field.Focusing on the academic context,it discovers that Chinese students of Dewey's pedigree inherited the educational thought of pragmatism and the method of experimentalism of him,while their value orientation of higher education is kind of heteroid.The academic network of Peking University is of strong convergence and good interaction,and the value orientation of higher education is almost homogeneous,even though there is slight difference.At the same time,the investigation of the change of higher education thought caused by the shift of the presidency context of famous universities shows that the personnel shift of university presidents does not necessarily lead to the fracture of a university's idea,but the change of career context may cause the university president's educational idea slightly adjusted or changed.The analysis of the related core texts of the university idea and the university educational idea reveals the multiple harmonic property and oppositional symbiosis of the core of higher education thoughts.Because of the famous university presidents' higher education thought and practice of context is irreproducible and irreplaceable,complex,associative and crossed,from the perspective of instrumentalism,cutting out fragments of their higher education thoughts or contexts and conducting "myth" prefabricated research may lead to inappropriate research results and also may hide the true history of higher education.In addition,due to the limitation of The Times,the higher education thoughts of the famous university presidents in the Republic of China did not rise to the theoretical level.Based on the context perspective,the paper summarizes the formation course,the influence factors and the formation characteristics of the higher education thoughts of famous university presidents in the Republic of China.Based on this,it touched on the status of the context of the higher education thoughts of modern famous university presidents and puts forward ways of the context construction.
