Abstract/Summary:
A revision and phylogenetic analysis of the genus Sisenes Champion (Coleoptera: Oedemeridae) is provided using comparative anatomical and functional morphological characters of adults. The research is based on a taxonomic analysis of 35 species historically attributed to the genus and a cladistic analysis of the 22 species hypothesized to be correctly assigned to Sisenes sensu stricto and a related new genus. Synapomorphies for the newly defined Sisenes include: apical segment of maxillary palpus short, cultriform, antennal segments 3-5 thickened/broadened, elytra slightly widened apically, elytra each with four costae, and striae strongly impressed. Ten species comprise the genus as now defined. A new genus, Cantharosisenes, is proposed and is defined by the following synapomorphies: antennal segments filiform, sides of elytra subparallel, elytra with 2-3 costae, and striae weakly impressed. Twelve species are removed from Sisenes and placed into Cantharosisenes. Six species are removed from Sisenes and placed into existing genera. Two species remain insertae sedis due to missing types and lack of adequate study material. One species is removed from Sisenes but its generic placement is currently unresolved. Keys to species of both Sisenes and Cantharosisenes are provided, and each of the 10 species of Sisenes and 12 species of Cantharosisenes is redescribed and salient features and hahitus images are provided.;A taxonomic revision of the genus Diplectrus Kirsch (Coleoptera: Oedemeridae) is provided using comparative anatomical and functional morphological characters of adults. The research is based on a taxonomic analysis of 20 species historically attributed to the genus. Twenty species comprise the genus as now defined. One species remains insertae sedis. Three new synonyms are proposed. A key to species of Diplectrus is provided, and each of the 20 species is redescribed and salient features and habitus images are provided.
