Catalytic asymmetric reactions using novel catalysts are constantly being developed in chemistry laboratories throughout the world. A select number of ligands and their metal complexes are applicable to a variety of asymmetric reactions from prochiral substrates. A tethered bis(8-quinolinato) ligand was complexed with aluminum and displayed remarkable selectivity and reactivity for several asymmetric processes. These reactions include; the asymmetric Mukaiyama-Michael reaction with simple silyl enol ethers, the asymmetric Friedel-Crafts alkylation with indoles, the asymmetric Pudovik reaction of aldehydes and aldimines, and the asymmetric Strecker reaction using alternative cyanide sources. |
