| The rate of low birth weight infants among Latinas is rising. Conclusive etiology for this increase is unknown. However, it has been suggested that maternal mental health factors, such as depression, may pose risks for unfavorable birth outcomes. Presently, there is a lack of research that specifically addresses depression, pregnancy outcomes, and Latinas. Therefore, the present study examined the relationship between maternal depression and birth weight of infants among Latinas. Participants were obtained from a local nonprofit low birth weight agency (n = 11). A construct for mothers with a previous depressive episode and number of children surfaced. |
