Abstract/Summary:
Three academic performance outcomes---grade point average (GPA), retention rate, and graduation rate---were examined among college students who did and did not participate in one of three academic success programs at Arizona State University. The students were enrolled either in University 100 (UNI 100; N = 8870), Campus Match ( N = 4759), or Summer Bridge (N = 483), or in No Intervention (N = 5570), with all intervention programs aimed at success in academic performance and adaptive campus living. These three programs, along with a no intervention group, constituted the four levels of the independent variable of the study---intervention program. It was hypothesized that students who participated in any of the programs would show higher grade point average (GPA), retention rates, and graduation rates than students who did not participate. It was also hypothesized that students participating in the three programs would have differential outcomes on all three variables, as well, with Campus Match showing the best outcome, followed by Summer Bridge, and UNI 100, in that order. Statistical analyses of the three variables were conducted separately, with corrections for multiple statistical tests.
