International students' satisfaction with international student services and their college experience

Abstract/Summary:
The study of foreign-born students coming to the United States is almost as old as our institutions of higher education. Relevant research indicates that America benefits culturally and economically, from the international students' decision to attend academic institutions in the United States. International students who enjoy a positive experience return to their own countries as good-will ambassadors, and may promote a positive image of the United States.;The success of international students is important to all parties concerned. Among the keys to success for this population are helping them: cope with governmental regulations, find suitable living quarters, access essential registration services, purchase food, socialize with Americans and manage social and cultural differences.;Many institutions of higher education have offices and staff for the specific task of supporting international students. The office in this study is called the International Student Service Office (ISSO). This study examined the relationships between international students and ISSO. The focus was the international students' satisfaction with the ISSO and their overall college experience. In addition, difficulties that international students encountered with interpersonal relationships, dealing with American diversity, American culture, daily life, and academic issues were examined in relationship to student satisfaction with ISSO and the international students' college experience.
