Abstract/Summary:
Although Stroop-related measures are often considered measures of inhibition, their track record of being able to predict long-term behavioral outcomes is inconsistent. The current study investigated the psychometric properties of a new variant of the Stroop Interference Test, the Color-Word Interference Test (CWIT) from the Delis-Kaplan Executive Function System. A non-referred sample of 203 college-student participants completed a wide variety of cognitive measures and questionnaires measuring self-reported behavioral outcomes. Latent variable analyses with three new tests designed to have the same cognitive demands as the CWIT suggest the structure of the CWIT proposed by its authors is plausible, but that other theoretically defensible structures may fit the data better. With the possible exception of self-reported verbal dysfluency, the CWIT was a poor predictor of self-reported behavioral outcomes.
