Abstract/Summary:
This dissertation sets forth a comprehensive population based multi-objective design optimization algorithm for a permanent-magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) drive. Advancements set forth in this work include salient permanent-magnet machine modeling, inverter semiconductor switching and conduction loss modeling, and dc link modeling. The algorithm uses an embedded time domain simulation to accurately predict the losses and current ripple. A design study is presented to demonstrate the use of the algorithm described herein.
