Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study was to explore LGB participants' recollection of perceived parental acceptance/parental rejection (PPA/PPR) of their sexual minority identity and its connection to participants' adult romantic relationship satisfaction and romantic relationship quality. This study focused on the retrospective perceptual accounts of LGB adult's experiences with parental acceptance/rejection of sexual orientation and reports of their most recent or current long-term relationship. 147 individuals participated in the study between the ages of 24 and 40, identifying as LGB, and were currently in a relationship of six months or greater or were in a relationship of six months or greater in the last two years. This study provided insight into the role of perceived acceptance/rejection of LGB individuals, finding significant relationships between PPA/PPR and relationship satisfaction and quality.
