Abstract/Summary:
A review of the literature indicated the impact of deployment on U.S. military women in the areas of mental health, relationships, and healthcare was lacking and warranted further study. A grounded theory approach was used to determine the impact of deployment on U.S. military women. U.S. military women were interviewed to see what themes would emerge from their unique deployment experiences in an effort to improve their post-deployment treatment, to inform those who provide counseling to this population, and to evoke change in the literature to focus its attention on this understudied population. A data analysis of the participants' interviews produced eight major themes, and the researcher extensively documents the themes and resulting 30 subthemes with the participants' responses. A summary including guidance for further research of this population is provided.
