Abstract/Summary:
This study was undertaken to better understand the effects of walking to school and how walking to school impacts students' attendance, achievement and the dropout rate for students who attended the Milford High School. Archival data for approximately 1000 students was studied to determine whether students who lived within the DOE mandated walk boundaries, and who actually walked to school, had statistically significant different rates of absenteeism, statistically significant different academic performance and statistically significant different dropout rates, as compared to their peer students who were either provided bus transportation or who drove/rode to school.
