Abstract/Summary:
This study examined the impact of leadership and spirituality on resilience. The authors surveyed 255 participants using the Leader Behavior Descriptive Questionnaire (Halprin & Winer, 1952) to measure leadership, the Spirituality Assessment Scale (Howden, 1992) to measure spirituality and the Resilience Scale (Wagnild & Young, 1993) to measure resilience. The sample was comprised of mostly educators that worked for a South Texas school district. The author found a statistically significant relationship between spirituality and resilience. A relationship between spirituality and both dimensions of leadership, initiating structure and consideration, was also found. The study also found a relationship between age and initiating structure and between ethnicity and resilience. A dimension of spirituality, transcendence, was found to be related to both initiating structure and consideration, both dimensions of leadership. Finally, another spirituality dimension, unifying interconnectedness, was found to be related to the leadership dimension, consideration.
