Abstract/Summary:
Increasingly, organizations are conducting more Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) projects in order to promote organizational efficiencies. Meanwhile, minimal research has been conducted on the leadership challenges faced by project managers during the ERP project implementations and how these challenges are managed. The existing project management framework is all about monitoring, controlling, and problem-solving. Leadership on the other hand is about establishing a direction, planning and preparing for the bigger picture, aligning resources, strategies, tasks and activities. This research study focused on examining and investigating the leadership experiences and challenges encountered by Project Managers, as well as capturing their perspectives on how these leadership challenges can be managed in order to contribute and improve project ERP implementation success. Findings from the research study revealed leadership challenges that project managers encountered during ERP project implementations and the elements they utilized to manage these challenges. The participants were from various regions of the country providing a diverse unbiased sample.
