My dissertation focuses on the study of reproductive isolation between Drosophila santomea and other species in the D. melanogaster subgroup. The aim of this research is to determine the relative importance of reproductive isolating mechanisms (RIMs), their evolutionary rates of origin, and their genetic bases. In the following chapters, I describe the evolution of three different types of mechanisms: premating, postmating-prezygotic, and postzygotic RIMs.
