Correlation theory of charge inversion

Wigner-crystal like correlations between highly charged counterions (multivalent ions, short and long polyelectrolytes…) condensed on the surface of biological macroions (DNA, colloids, proteins,…) are studied theoretically. They lead to counter-intuitive phenomena such as the inversion of the charge of the macroions, the effective attractions between like-charged macroions, the macroion condensation-decondensation in solution containing highly charged counterions.
