Abstract/Summary:
The monophyly of the aleocharine beetle tribe Hoplandriini (Staphylinidae) is established and the phylogenetic relationships of 16 genus-group taxa are resolved. Three primary lineages are recognized: the Ligulata + ((Platandria + Tetrallus) + ( Paroplandria + (Ditropandria + (Omoplandria + (Nosora + Tinotoma))))) Glade forms a sister group to the ((Hoplandria + undescribed species 5, 4, 6) + undescribed species 1, 2, 3) clade, and together form the sister group to Pseudoplandria. Based on phylogenetic inference, three subtribes are proposed. The Hoplandriina is composed of Hoplandria s. lato and two newly described genera from the New World. The Platandriina (new subtribe) is composed of Ditropandria, Ligulata, Nosora, Omoplandria, Paraplandria , and Platandria from the Nearctic, Neotropical, Oriental, and Palearctic regions. The Pseudoplandriina (new subtribe) is composed of the single genus Pseudoplandria primarily from the Oriental Region with one species from the Palearctic Region.;A revision of most of the genera of the Hoplandriini of the World is presented. Ten genera, Ditropandria, Heliconandria, Hoplandria, Leptandria, Ligulata, Nosora, Omoplandria, Paroplandria, Platandria and Pseudoplandria, are treated, including five subgenera within Hoplandria. Six genera with seven species are treated as incertae sedis. Two genera, Leptandria and Heliconandria, and six species, L. ashei, L. tishechkini, L. ecitophila, H. gynochela, H. peoechma, and H. wettersteniana , are described as new. Tetrallus Bernhauer, Tinotoma Cameron, and Troposandria Cameron are placed in synonymy with Platandria Casey, Nosora Casey, and Pseudoplandria Fenyes, respectively. Microcephalina Bernhauer and Tacata Blackwelder are removed from the Hoplandriini and placed within Athetini, while Tinotus Casey is placed within Aleocharini. Tinotus refusus is also described as new.;An annotated catalog of the Hoplandriini is presented. Each valid species listing includes: (1) an annotated listing of scientific literature where each name appears; (2) all type specimen information, including whereabouts and label data; and (3) type locality, as specific as possible. For many species, the type specimens were examined and all label data were recorded and reported here. The proposed classification of the Hoplandriini contains 3 subtribes, 18 genera, 7 subgenera and 210 species. Lectotypes are designated for 91 species, while a holotype is designated for Platandria mormonica Casey.
