Abstract/Summary:
The rational interpolation (RI) method has been developed to become an efficient tool for performance analysis. In this dissertation, through a number of applications drawn from real-time reliability systems, statistical multiplexers, randomized algorithms and communications systems, we have further investigated the effectiveness of the RI approach. Most of the examples considered here are difficult or infeasible for the existing evaluation techniques, due to their computational complexity in analysis and/or simulations.;For the evaluation of probability integrals, which are suitable for modeling many detection systems, a general scheme for constructing RI has been proposed and demonstrated through numerical examples.;In addition, a more complete RI convergence theory has been developed, including new results on RI for functions with integer-valued arguments.
